Office hours in government departments run from 8am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Lunchtime is usually takes one hour. Banking hours tend to run from 9am to 5pm. Some banks are now open on Saturdays and Sundays too. The traffic rush hour is 8-9am and 6-7pm.

Port of Guangzhou is one of the main coastal ports in China and the significant hinge of the country's integrated transportation system. 1. On the morning of December 31st, the tallest building in Guangzhou - the Guangzhou International Finance Center (also called the ‘West Tower’) - was “topped off”. Once fully completed, the 103-story and 432-meter tall skyscraper will be one of the ten highest buildings in the world.
2. Nov. 17th:
Guangzhou is awarded the title of "National Forest City".
3. To greet the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, the Guangzhou government has planned a major renovation project on the 2.5-kilometer long Renmin Road, which is renowned for it's antique Lingnan (south China) style Qilou buildings. The China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Fair was held at Guangzhou's Pazhou Complex from November 19th to 25th. It is the sixth session of the fair, with the theme of "Hi-tech Promise for the Future."
4. The Guangzhou Municipality News and Information Office held a press conference on the afternoon of November 13th to announce that the handling capacity for Guangzhou Port had exceeded ten million containers. Meanwhile, a ceremony would be held at Guangzhou Port to celebrate the great event.
5. With the two destinations of Guangzhou's Li Jiao and Foshan's Hui Qi Lu, the first phase of the new metro line linking the two south China cities is scheduled to be completed by 2010. The line between Guangzhou's Xi Lang and Foshan's Hui Qi Lu will be 32.16 kilometers long and separated into 21 stations, with an investment of 14.7 billion yuan.
